A massive fire has broken out in Langtang National Park, local police said.
The blaze, which started at around midnight, has engulfed huge areas in Yarcha VDC ward 6 and 7, said Rasuwa Police chief DSP Sudip Giri.
Officials believe that the fire was started by local poachers. They said that as this is not a bush fire season, poachers may have set the woods on fire to trap wild animals.
Nepali Police and Nepali Army personnel are trying to douse the fire, said Giri. He added that the operation's aim was to contain the fire, which has engulfed an entire hill, so that it does not reach human settlement.
Langtang National Park, located north to Kathmandu, was also the scene of a minor fire last week that had triggered rumours that a 'volcanic eruption' had taken place in the area. nepalnews
